Mastering UX Day 3: Effective Prototyping

Thursday 25 March 2010
Amsterdam

Instructors: Dirk-Jan Hoets and Jonathan Arnowitz

Effective Prototyping

With the right strategy and process in place you are still not out of the woods if there is a fundamental flaw in the way design prototypes are created. This day covers both how to create an effective prototyping process but also how to avoid the common prototyping pitfalls. Therefore this last day focuses on how to evolve prototyping from a mysterious unmanageable process into the central UX activity that you will be able to wield like weapon in the UX design process: making prototyping a manageable, predictable and repeatable activity.

Among the topics covered are:

  • The strategy and tactics of effective prototyping;
  • Managing and planning prototypes;
  • Setting the correct level of fidelity;
  • Defining the characteristics of prototypes;
  • Prototyping methods and how to choose the right one;
  • Prototyping tools and how to choose the right one
  • How to evaluate the prototypes

By the end of the session, anyone involved in software creation can create, use and refine prototypes, from business analysts to product managers, software engineers to interaction designers, graphic designers to user researchers and many more. Whether or not you have artistic talent, access to special tools, or programming ability, this practical, informative course will helps to use good prototyping style, methods, and tools to build prototypes and manage for effective prototyping.
